Pedal bins for tight corners
A pedal bin needs more room than its closed outline suggests. The pedal projects forward, the lid rises, and the inner bucket must travel out of the top when it is time to empty it.

Measure three movements
Mark the body footprint and pedal projection on the floor. Stand where you would normally use it and check whether your foot can reach the pedal without turning awkwardly or hitting a neighboring cabinet. Then compare the open-lid height with any counter above. A bin can fit beneath a shelf while closed and still be impossible to open fully.
Check the route for removing the inner bucket or bag. If the bin must be dragged out every time, leave room to grip it and consider whether the floor and base are suited to that movement. Hinges may also require clearance behind the body. Do not assume a product described as space-saving can sit flush against every wall.
Choose capacity with the liner in mind
Compare the bag dimensions and the maker's liner guidance, not only the volume in liters or gallons. A narrow tall bin and a wide shallow one can need different bag shapes despite similar capacity. Check how excess liner is held at the rim. A loose fold can interfere with a lid, while a bag stretched tightly over the edge may be awkward to remove.
A removable bucket helps with emptying and cleaning, but its handle should fold away without catching the liner. Look for corners you can reach and an opening wide enough for ordinary waste. A large nominal volume is less useful if the entry is so narrow that items have to be pushed against the rim. Choose around the waste generated in that room rather than the largest bin the corner can hold.
Inspect the everyday details
Test the lid movement where a demonstration model is available, or read how the mechanism is operated and maintained. A soft-closing feature should not be treated as permission to force the lid down. Check whether the lid can be kept open for cleaning using an intended mechanism. The bin should remain stable during normal pedal use without needing to be wedged between furniture.
Select a finish whose cleaning instructions suit the location. Wipe spills promptly as directed and clean the underside periodically. If the pedal becomes loose or the lid no longer moves properly, follow the manufacturer's maintenance guidance rather than compensating by stamping harder. A slightly smaller bin with clear access is often more convenient than a tightly fitted one that must be moved for every routine task.
